Bill Gates predicts AI may have hit a ceiling, thinks GPT-5 will not be a major leap
Microsoft may own 49% of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, but Bill Gates doesn’t think that GPT-5 (presumably OpenAI’s next major AI model) will be a huge leap in terms of performance.
However, Gates still believes that AI has massive potential and points to other areas where we might see considerable improvements:
The next 2-5 years could bring about significant increases in accuracy and reductions in development costs.
Such improvements could make generative AI viable for medical use cases like drug development and health advice.
While Nvidia has the edge right now in terms of AI chips, Gates thinks that competing tech companies will create new offerings to resolve the current shortage of chips.
It will take up to a decade to truly understand how AI algorithms work.
When asked about artificial general intelligence (AGI), Gates said that it will be a profound development for humanity, but that there is no way to know for sure when it will arrive.

Advances in AI could render SEO extinct, says Information Systems Associate Professor

Big tech firms with serious AI ambitions have made no secret of the fact that they intend to leverage generative AI to transform how people find information online. Both Microsoft and Google have released major generative AI features for their search products and ChatGPT has a web browsing feature as well.
Ravi Sen, Associate Professor of information and operations management at Mays Business School, thinks that these advancements could spell the end for the SEO industry as we know it.
With some of the latest AI-powered features in search, tech firms are bypassing the traditional search path of offering users a list of links, and instead offering them direct answers with chatbots like Bard and ChatGPT.
As the quality of results from these chatbots improves, users will become less likely to go through a list of links to find what they’re looking for. In essence, that would render current SEO efforts obsolete.
However, these chatbots have a reputation for being unreliable and providing incorrect answers. While AI-powered chatbots could replace traditional search, there is still some way to go before they reach an acceptable threshold for accuracy.
